JOIN US AT THE ITALIAN MUSEUM, NYC

For eight decades, Roman Catholic priest Louis Scurti has been collecting Nativity figurines. Also known as Presepe, or Presepio, Nativity scenes of all sizes and shapes are displayed worldwide at churches and homes during the Christmas season. The tradition dates to the 13^th century and St. Francis of Assisi, who organized a live re-enactment of Christ’s birth with a manger, animals, and people in the town of Greccio. St. Francis’ goal was to make the story accessible to those who couldn’t read Latin, and the event eventually spread throughout Europe by the 18^th century, and ultimately to all parts of the globe. Father Scurti will guide the audience to figures and artifacts he is donating to the Italian American Museum, representing decades of his family history.
