On 5 January 2023, at 9.30 am, in the churchyard of St. Peter’s Basilica, the Holy Father Francis will preside over the Holy Funeral Mass for the deceased Supreme Pontiff Emeritus Benedict XVI.

At the end of the Eucharistic celebration, the Ultima Commendatio and the Valedictio will take place. The coffin of the Supreme Pontiff Emeritus will be taken to St. Peter’s Basilica and then to the Vatican Grottoes for burial.
